Fair use policy

Fair use of GReVD content is defined as the excerption of GReVD copyrighted material for such purposes as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship or research in which the use is for non-commercial purposes the reproduction of less than 10 per cent of a published data set. 

NB: Both the above conditions must apply to count as fair use.

Fair use is freely authorized as long as due reference is given to the specific GReVD source(s) and appropriate consortium members.

Reproduction of the GReVD website

GReVD freely authorizes the downloading or printing of the contents of its website for any non-commercial use. You may use or cite the contents of the website only if you give a clear reference to its source. For any commercial use of the content on this website (e.g. repurposing or reprinting data and content for cash sales), please obtain written permission from GReVD. For use of non-GReVD material linked as a resource on this website, permission must be obtained from the copyright owner.

Reproduction of GReVD data

GReVD data may be freely downloaded, cited, and used for statistical or other analytical purposes, with proper attribution.

Attribution to GReVD in a source credit-line is given, including the phrase 'Information from the Global Registry of Violent Deaths (GReVD), www.grevd.org'. This applies to both citations and reproduction.

When text or data is to be used for commercial purposes, the parties will negotiate permission and a reasonable royalty for such commercial use.  Any royalties collected will be used for GReVD research.  

You do NOT need permission to use or cite GReVD data for the following purposes, so long as GReVD is clearly identified as the source of the data:

This includes producing graphs and charts based on the data and reproducing graphs and charts from the GReVD website.

Commercial usage

GReVD offers services and applies fees for commercial usage of its information. On request to GReVD Publications, Library and Editorial Department, specific data and information packages can be obtained.
